Investing in Innovation Federal Grant

Last fall, the U.S. Department of Education announced the winners of the i3 (Investing in Innovation) federal grant. Among the winners in the “Scale Up” category was Ohio State’s University’s Reading Recovery: Scaling Up What Works. This federal grant awarded over $45 million to OSU and its 15 partners. Our Center for Reading Recovery and Literacy Collaborative is one of the partners on this grant. To see the 14 other university training centers partnering on this grant, please visit OSU’s i3 website.  Schools that qualify to participate in this grant must meet at least one of these criteria:

• a school listed on the state’s School Improvement Grant list
• a Title I school in restructuring or corrective action for any reason (subgroups, math, ELA, etc.)
• a school that is in a rural LEA (listed on the SRSA and RLISP eligibility lists)
• a school that has an LEP population that is at or above the state’s average

What this means for teachers and administrators is that if they would like training in Reading Recovery and their school meets the criteria for selection for the grant, they can receive Reading Recovery teacher training for FREE under this grant. All graduate credit associated with this teacher training as well as all professional and leveled books needed for the intervention are included in the grant. In addition, each participating teacher receives a $2,000 stipend that they can use for various Reading Recovery expenses and materials.
